Why PDI Matters

Your New Car Deserves More Than a Quick Delivery Check.

A car travels a long way before it reaches your dealership — factory, transport, yard storage and pre-delivery handling. Even a brand-new car can reach you with:

  • Paint defects
  • Scratches
  • Dents
  • Repainted panels
  • Transit damage
  • Electrical faults
  • Sensor issues
  • Battery concerns
  • Tyre problems
  • Fit & finish defects

An independent inspection gives you a neutral, documented view of the car's condition while you still have leverage — before you accept delivery and drive it home.

What We Check

The 200+ Point Inspection

Every inspection follows the same structured protocol, across six core areas of the vehicle.

Powertrain & Mechanicals

Deep diagnostics covering engine health, transmission operation, fluid leaks and key mechanical components.

Exterior & Paint Depth

Using coating thickness measurements and visual inspection to identify repainting, accidental damage and factory finish defects.

Underbody & Suspension

Checking suspension components, chassis condition, underbody damage, rust and possible transit-related issues.

Electricals & OBD2

Complete diagnostic scanning of ECU systems, sensors, electronics, infotainment and relevant wiring.

Interior & Upholstery

Verification of cabin plastics, seats, switches, AC performance, controls, upholstery and signs of water ingress.

Safety & Structural

Inspection of critical safety-related systems and visible structural parameters to identify potential concerns before delivery.

EV-Specific PDI

Buying an EV? Your PDI Needs More Than a Visual Check.

Electric cars have a completely different architecture. Your battery, BMS, high-voltage systems, charging system and software deserve specialized diagnostics before you take delivery.

A New EV Can Look Perfect — And Still Need a Deeper Diagnostic Check.

Unlike a petrol or diesel car, an EV depends heavily on its high-voltage battery, Battery Management System (BMS), power electronics, charging hardware, thermal management and software-controlled systems.

That's why our EV PDI includes EV-focused diagnostic checks where compatible access is available.

Not Just a Generic OBD Scan

EVs Need EV-Capable Diagnostics.

A generic OBD2 reader may provide only limited information on an EV. Depending on the make and model, important battery and high-voltage data can sit behind manufacturer-specific diagnostic protocols and software.

Sure Drives PDI uses EV-capable diagnostic equipment and software where supported to access relevant vehicle systems and identify diagnostic information that a basic scanner may not reveal.

BMS • HV System • DTCs • Live Data • Charging System

No single universal device works on every EV. Diagnostic coverage depends on the vehicle make, model, year and available diagnostic access.

What Our EV PDI Looks For

EV-Specific Inspection Points.

01

Battery Management System (BMS)

Check available BMS diagnostic information, battery-related fault codes and relevant live data. Where supported, we review:

  • Battery State of Health (SoH)
  • State of Charge (SoC)
  • Cell voltage information
  • Cell temperature information
  • Battery-related warnings and faults

Availability and interpretation of battery data vary by manufacturer and model.

02

High-Voltage System

Review available diagnostic information for:

  • High-voltage system faults
  • Isolation-related faults
  • HV battery system warnings
  • Relevant high-voltage control modules

Visual checks of accessible components and wiring only — no opening or servicing of high-voltage components.

03

Battery Pack & Underbody

Inspect accessible areas for:

  • Visible battery pack damage
  • Scratches or impact marks
  • Underbody damage
  • Signs of leakage or contamination
  • Mounting and physical condition where accessible

The battery pack is never opened or dismantled during a normal PDI.

04

Charging System

Check the hardware and diagnostics behind charging:

  • Charging port and connector pin condition
  • Charging-port locking mechanism
  • AC charging functionality where practical
  • DC fast-charging where practical and authorized
  • On-board charger diagnostics and fault codes

The supplied charging cable / EVSE is verified where applicable.

05

Thermal Management

Check relevant systems and diagnostic data related to:

  • Battery thermal management
  • Cooling system
  • Coolant leaks where applicable
  • Temperature sensors
  • Thermal-management warnings and faults

Battery temperature management directly affects EV performance, charging behaviour and long-term battery operation.

06

Motor & Power Electronics

Check available diagnostics for:

  • Electric motor
  • Inverter and power electronics
  • Drive system faults
  • Relevant warning codes
  • Abnormal noises or behaviour during operation
07

12V Auxiliary Battery

The small battery is never ignored. We check:

  • 12V battery condition
  • Voltage / health where measurable
  • Warning messages
  • Related electrical symptoms

An EV can have a large traction battery and still depend on a separate 12V electrical system for many vehicle functions.

08

Software & Electronic Systems

Check where accessible:

  • Vehicle software / version information
  • Warning messages and control-module fault codes
  • Infotainment and connected-car functions
  • Digital displays, sensors and cameras
  • ADAS-related warnings

The Most Expensive Part of Your EV Is Hidden Underneath.

The traction battery is one of the most important components of an EV. A visual inspection alone cannot tell you everything about the condition of its electronic systems.

Our EV-focused PDI combines physical inspection with appropriate diagnostic checks to give you a clearer picture of the vehicle before you accept delivery.

EV-Specific PDI

Buying an EV?

EVs use battery management systems, high-voltage control modules and manufacturer-specific communication protocols. A basic generic OBD2 scanner may not provide access to all relevant EV data. Depending on the vehicle, EV-capable diagnostic equipment and model-specific software may be required.

Where the vehicle provides appropriate diagnostic access, we can review available battery health information such as SoH, SoC and relevant BMS data. Availability and the exact parameters vary by make and model.

Where supported by the vehicle's diagnostic system, relevant cell voltage and temperature information may be reviewed. Not every EV exposes the same level of battery data.

We perform appropriate external and accessible visual checks for signs of damage or underbody impact. A normal PDI does not involve opening or dismantling the high-voltage battery pack.

Where practical, authorized and supported by the vehicle and location, charging-port condition and relevant charging functionality can be checked. Diagnostic information related to the charging system may also be reviewed.

No. EV diagnostic coverage varies by manufacturer, model and year. We use appropriate EV-capable diagnostic equipment and software where supported, and communicate any diagnostic limitations clearly.

Yes. A new EV can still have transit damage, paint defects, charging issues, electronic faults, software-related warnings or other issues. An EV-specific PDI adds another layer of verification before delivery.

Important Guidelines Before Booking

Must-Read: Before You Book Your Inspection

To make your PDI smooth, accurate and effective, please confirm the following with your dealership before scheduling the inspection.

Your Preparation Checklist

Five quick confirmations with your dealership.

  1. 01

    Confirm Dealership Approval

Please confirm that your showroom/dealer allows third-party vehicle inspections to be conducted within their premises or vehicle yard.

Inspection access is subject to dealership permission.

  2. 02

Ensure the Car Is Properly Washed

Ask the dealership to pressure-wash/clean the vehicle before our inspector arrives. A clean exterior is important for accurate paint, panel and surface-condition checks.

Important for Paint & Surface Inspection

  3. 03

Do Not Authorize RTO Registration Yet

Where possible, do not authorize vehicle registration until the PDI has been completed and the inspection findings are clear. The final decision always remains yours.

    Inspect First → Register Later

  4. 04

    Ensure Daylight / Well-Lit Access

Request the vehicle to be parked in an open, well-lit area when our inspector arrives. Proper lighting helps us identify paint defects, scratches, dents and panel inconsistencies more accurately.

    Recommended

  5. 05

Keep Your VIN / Chassis Number Ready

Please keep the allotted Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) / Chassis Number available for verification during the inspection.

    Recommended
